Interview with Linus’ Blanket at Anchor Rock Club

Natalie Hogan as Nardwaur the Human Serviette with Linus’ Blanket’s Jesse as Linus, Ricky as Charlie, Grant as Sally, and Vinny as Pigpen from Charlie Brown in the basement of Anchor Rock Club.

This interview took place on October 19, 2024

I’m Natalie, and well I am Nardwaur tonight, and I’m here with Linus’ Blanket. So, if you guys all want to introduce yourselves.

[Jesse] I’m Jesse of Linus’ Blanket.

[Ricky] I’m Ricky.

[Grant] I’m Francis.

[Vinny] And I’m Vinny.

And as we can see they are dressed up as their respective Charlie Brown counterparts.

[Jesse] I’m Linus.

[Ricky] I’m Blues Clues.

[Grant] Sally.

[Vinny] Pigpen.

Okay! Well, you guys had a really great set by the way. I really liked it. So, I just wanted to ask you guys a couple of questions. For everyone, as a band, kind of just what does music mean to you guys and why does it matter enough for you guys to be a band?

[Jesse] Music, for me, is very – is like – my outlet of emotion. Words are hard, as you’ll probably see in this interview. But music gives me time to think of my thoughts and then really communicate it into energy. Sorry dude that, shut up. Stop.

[Ricky] Music is the only consistent thing in my life.

[Grant] Music is an outlet for me for my feelings.

[Vinny] Yeah pretty much like, it makes me not want to like, scream at someone every day. Yeah. It tames the feelings. It tames the feelings up deep inside.

[Ricky] Did someone say tame?

[Grant] Impala.

Okay so, obviously we’re at a Halloween show right now so I wanted to know what is your guys dream Halloween song that you’d like to cover is?

[Jesse] Oh.

[Grant] I got mine. It’s *starts singing*  “I always feel like, somebody’s watching me.”

That’s a pretty good one.

[Grant] Or I would say Ghostbusters II, um “On Our Own.” If you don’t know what that is, look it up.

[Vinny] Nobody knows what that is.

[Grant] Look it up!

[Ricky] Mine is “Little Drummer Boy.” What would yours be?

[Vinny] Maybe like, the song like when they’re in like Nightmare Before Christmas.

[Grant] “This is Halloween?” That one?

[Vinny] “This is Halloween.” Just in case you forgot, it’s Halloween. This is Halloween.

[Grant] Jesse what would yours be?

[Jesse] I’m going to do, haha, I’m going to do the Black Ops “Damned” song. Or just any of those Ice Nine Kills songs. Whatever.

All good picks, all good picks. As a band, where do you guys kind of grab your inspiration from? Whether that be, you know, other artists or if that’s just things you encounter in real life.

[Jesse] This is a me question. I write all the songs. They follow my lead.

[Ricky] What?

[Jesse] They – what? But yeah, my inspirations are definitely from Pinegrove and Hovvdy. I like Hovvdy a lot.

Nice, nice.

[Grant] Michael Gordon.

[Jesse] Yeah, Michael Gordon.

[Ricky] MJ?

[Jesse] MJ Lenderman? I haven’t even listened to the album yet.

[Grant] That’s Mk.gee.

[Jesse] But, I found out – I found a song by him that I didn’t even know was by him. So, I’m just like way cooler than you before.

[Ricky] Okay.

So, is there a favorite show that you guys have played together yet?

[Vinny] This one.

[Jesse] Yeah.

[Grant] Honestly, I would have to say – yeah probably this one.

[Ricky]  This one ‘cause I’m dressed up as Blue Clues.

[Jesse] Yeah, this one.

[Vinny] I mean how many  songs – I mean how many shows have we played so far.

[Jesse] Like, four.

[Grant] Well I’m new so I’ve played like three.

[Jesse] Yeah. We’ve played like four or five sets so far. But yeah, it’s definitely – we’ve been getting better each time.

[Vinny] Yeah. I think definitely this one might be – every new one’s a favorite.

[Ricky] I would agree with that.

Okay, nice. I know you guys said while you were performing how – you played the one song that is going to be a new single. Is there any, like, news with that or just any upcoming stuff with your music that you can share with us?

[Jesse] I’ve been sitting on that song for a really long time, and it’s very hard for me to admit to myself that it’s done. So, I just want every song that’s released to sound perfect, but I have to get over that.

[Grant] If you’re looking for a shoe-gazey, My Bloody Valentine-esque sound, listen to Linus’ Blanket.

[Jesse] Yeah.

[Vinny] It’s a little bit more folky in it.

[Grant] Type shit.

[Ricky] You can’t say that it’s a curse word.

Yeah sorry, we’re going to have to cut the interview.

[Grant] We’re going to snip it out. Snip, snip, snip.

Well, that’s everything I had so thank you guys for talking with me. You guys had a really great set, and I look forward to seeing you guys again!

Thank you Nardwaur.

Doot doola doot do…

Doot do!

Alright, thank you guys!
