Interview with Loveseat Pete at Anchor Rock Club

Natalie Hogan as Nardwaur the Human Serviette with Loveseat Pete’s Vinny as Gru, and Jason and Andrew as his minions in the basement of Anchor Rock Club.

This interview took place on October 19, 2024

Hi! By the way, I’m Natalie, nice to meet you guys. You played a great set. I’m here with Loveseat Pete if you all want to introduce yourselves.

[Andrew] Andrew, drums.

[Vinny] Vinny.

[Jason] Jason.

What does music mean to all of you, and why does it matter enough for you guys to have a band and be performing?

[Vinny] Good question by the way. Very great first question. I don’t know. Personally, based off – might be recency bias – but I feel like a show like that is a big reason why we play music, you know? Like, we could play as much as we want like in our basements and together, but once we get out there and we see how much everybody’s enjoying it, everybody’s feeling it and having a good time, I think that’s why we do it. I mean, I think we would just be in the studio otherwise if it wasn’t. But, I think that’s a big reason why we play for sure. How do you feel?

[Jason] Absolutely great. Just, I’m so happy that we played that set. You know, I think everyone out there had a good time. That’s what we play for.

[Andrew] Additionally, the adrenaline rush, playing in front of people and putting on a good show, like there’s nothing – there’s no feeling that could ever rival something like that.

Yeah, sounds good! So, obviously, we’re at a Halloween show. Is there a Halloween song that you guys would love to cover as a band?

[Vinny] The first one that comes to mind is – I don’t know if I would like to cover it – but I always think of “Drunk on Halloween” by Wallows, right? I always think of that one. Ooh…what is a Halloween?

[Jason] I think like the gimmicky like cartoons like Scooby-Doo.

[Andrew] I was just going to say that!

[Jason] That’s what my mind goes to.

[Vinny] I was thinking like *starts singing* “I always feel like, somebody’s watching me.”

[Andrew] That’s a good one!

There’s always like, yeah you know, “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.

[Vinny] Yeah, big shout out. Alright yeah, “Thriller” for sure. I’m going to take that as my answer. I love that song. Thank you.

As a band, where do you guys kind of grab inspiration from? Whether that be musically: other artists, other bands, or if it’s just kind of stuff you encounter everyday in your life.

[Vinny] I think we - I personally like to take inspiration from a lot of things. I think expression can come from, you know, just music. If you’re trying to make music, you know, expression can come through in art or – to be honest – I watch a lot of sports or even things in live performance. Live performance as a whole, I think, is like an art form in itself because it’s a performance. So, I think I draw a lot from that, personally, and I want to make sure that it translates to the live performance that we present. You know, it’s more of like that itself is an expression and it’s different from the album we may present to you or something like that. So, I think I like to draw from ideas rather than – you know at the end of the day, I’ll listen to The Beatles and you know I’ll take something from there of course. You know, old shit like that. But, I personally like to draw from things outside of the music itself, and more of like what they’re trying to convey. You know, the idea itself.

[Jason] I think as far as inspiration it’s something – it’s sort of a compound of everything you experience in your life, whether you realize it or not. And that doesn’t have to be something from music, just everything you encounter in your life just kind of compounds into what you express.

[Andrew] Yeah, definitely can  build on that. A lot of musical influence will come from experience. Others experiences, your own experiences, a culmination of all those things. And mainly like, if I’m trying to learn some new music or get into something new, I reach out to my closest friends and they always have something interesting I can listen to. And then boom, I’m obsessed with it.

Nice, nice. Do you guys have a favorite show you’ve played so far as a band?

[Vinny] Depending how the night goes and how the gambling goes it might be this one. But that answer can absolutely change.

[Jason] This one, watching it, what day is today? The 19th? The 19th of October 2024 at Anchor Rock Club in Atlantic City. I actually had a really great time.

You guys played a great set.

[Vinny] Thank you; I appreciate it. But uh, we really like when we go back to like Asbury Park. Specifically, like, Asbury Lanes or a place like Low Dive. I think of it now. Just like, the summer or like when everyone’s home, you know that kind of situation. You see a lot of people you know and it’s like, “Hey!” you know? It’s the same people you know and easy to play with.

[Jason] Surrounded by people you like.

[Vinny] Yeah. People that are just there. You know what I mean? Those are some of my favorite shows, but I also love when people love what we’re giving, you know what I mean? So, any show like that.

Nice. And then my last question for you guys, I know you guys announced that you have a new album coming out; if you have anything else about that, that you want to share or anything further that you want to share with us?

[Vinny] Yeah. I don’t know when this will come out, but it’ll be active anyway, www dot welcome to – the number 2 – the alamo dot com. (www.welcome2thealamo.com) We have a countdown for our album. And you know, we have stuff coming out. We’re trying to keep it under wraps because I think once everything will come out and the countdown ends, you know, we’re just ready to hit people over the head. We’re excited to release this. We’ve put this, we’ve been putting a lot of time into this and shout out Noah Sullivan. He’s sending, you know, working on it every day. We love you. And our first record, yeah, Alamo – we’re really excited for it.

Nice, sounds good. Well thank you guys for speaking with me. You had a great show.

Thank you so much. Thank you for having us. We’re happy to be here.

Thank you!
