Interview with FEELSGOOD at Anchor Rock Club

Natalie Hogan as Nardwaur the Human Serviette with FEELSGOOD’s Troy as Charmander, Hunter as Squritle, and Trey as Pikachu in the basement of Anchor Rock Club.

This interview took place on October 19, 2024

Hello, I’m Natalie, by the way. I’m sitting here with FEELSGOOD if you guys want to introduce yourselves.

[Hunter] Hi, I’m Hunter from FEELSGOOD. I sing.

[Trey] I’m Pikachu. I play drums.

[Troy] I’m Troy. I play guitar.

I just wanted to ask you guys as a band, kind of what does music mean to you guys, and why does it matter enough for you to, you know, do shows and make music?

[Hunter] Well nights like tonight are like – my favorite part about music is the live show part, and just seeing people having like a freaking awesome time and like jumping around and stuff and like sweating and everything. That’s my favorite part. I write music to do this.  I write music to have a reason to be on stage to entertain people and give people a good time. So, for me, that’s the answer for – that’s my answer.

[Troy] Honestly, music it’s just – I love the emotions it can bring, and I don’t know, being able to go to a show and have fun is a great time. I love doing it, and it’s now great to be part of the person who helps someone else have fun at a show. Basically, kind of what he said in a way. Just seeing people have fun makes me feel good. Pun intended.

[Trey] I just love seeing people smile and seeing people have a great time. Like, I’m having a great time up there. It was very hot and sweaty today, but awesome.

Well obviously, you guys covered 21 Pilots up there, but since this is a Halloween show – do you guys have a Halloween song that you would love to cover as a band?

[Trey] I would love to do “What’s New Scooby-Doo.”

[Hunter] The uh, the China Ann McClain song.

Okay, yeah! No one said that.

[Hunter] *singing* Tonight all the monsters gonna dance!

We’re coming to get you. Yeah, that one is good.

[Hunter] Dude that’s a banger, oh my God.

[Trey] Shout out Disney Channel.

[Hunter] I miss 2011 or whatever year that came out. 10?

[Troy] Any song by The Misfits, honestly. They’re just Halloween in a band.

Where do you guys grab inspiration from? Whether that be musically, or just kind of things you encounter in everyday life?

[Hunter] I’d say like sound-wise for our band, we pull a lot from like 5 Seconds of Summer and Waterparks. This band called With Confidence that broke up a couple years ago. Rest in peace. And I’d say like, a big thing with our band is community with fans and stuff. And we take a lot like – we covered them tonight – we take that a lot from 21 pilots. Their fandom, as little bit toxic as it can be sometimes, they’re very tight-knit and like very supportive.

[Trey] It’s like a family.

[Hunter] They’re a very supportive fandom. So, like 21 Pilots and like bands like that. Same with like 5SOS and even like One Direction. Rest in peace my boy Liam. Yeah. Just stuff like that, so. Community is very important to us, so we pull a lot from bands like that as well.

[Trey] Makes us feel whole.

Do you guys have a favorite show that you’ve played together?

[Trey] No, I hate these guys.

[Hunter] We’ve had a lot of really-

You can all have a different answer too, if it varies.

[Troy] For me honestly, it’s either kind of a tie between tonight honestly and the one we did in Ventnor at the Ventnor VFW back in like over the summer.

[Trey] Oh, July 4th. Yeah.

[Troy] Can I curse on this?

I don’t care.

[Troy] It was fucking crazy.

[Trey] Bleep his ass out.

[Troy] I like to cuss a little.

[Trey] FUCK! I don’t know. I think Georgia was pretty cool. Just because I also had family out there, so it was cool to see, and they’ve always wanted me to go out there, but I did it doing what I love. Or we actually did a rooftop show.

That’s pretty cool.

[Trey] It wasn’t really like open to the public it was more for like a work event, but still, playing on the top of one of the buildings in Atlantic City…got to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever fucking done.

[Hunter] That was cool. I got to say Richmond, Virginia, was a really good show.

[Trey] I’m out. I don’t remember that.

[Hunter] Dude, that was the most, that show had the most amount of not people there ever.

[Trey] Stop!

[Hunter] It was so good.

[Trey] You know it was cool because I got to be on a little riser and yet no one was there.

[Hunter] That is true. That was the first time you had a drum riser.

[Trey] I know!

But it builds your confidence.

Does it?

Well okay, it builds your character. It builds character.

[Hunter] I guess real answer would be – tonight was really good. I’d say tie between the show in Ventnor back in July at VFW Hall, or – it wasn’t our best performance-wise but meaning-wise – back on May 3rd, we played our two-year anniversary show at this place called Tunes in Voorhees. That show was awesome. People came and like, it was for our anniversary, people came and like made like posters and stuff. It was a good time. It was a really good crowd, so. We did almost sell out.

[Trey] You know what’s crazy? Not one of us mentioned that we played at The Stone Pony.

[Hunter] We did play at The Stone Pony last – we did. That was fun.

That was just, that was something mild. The Stone Pony doesn’t matter.

[Troy] It was 3 in the afternoon on a Sunday.

[Trey] And the little kids that played before us were way better than us. We suck.

[Hunter] It was early enough where my grandma could come, so that’s how you know how early it was.

It was inclusive.

[Hunter] It was inclusive. It was fun, though.

You just got to reword it.

[Trey] Yeah, that’s true.

Okay, my last question for you guys is – do you have any upcoming music or any news with anything with the band upcoming that you can share with us?

[Hunter] Yeah!

[Trey] Get us on Warped Tour, maybe?

[Hunter] Next month, in November, we’ll have a new song coming out. It should be the last song off of an EP that comes out in December. We also have our next show, which is our last show of the year, we play – we’re back at the Ventnor VFW Hall again on December 21st. That’s going to be a banging show. It’s like a holiday/EP release show.

[Trey] Sell it out. Please.

[Hunter] Yeah because last time at VFW in Ventnor, we almost sold it out. It fits 125 people, and we sold 114 tickets.

[Trey] We were this close.

[Hunter] So this time, we want to sell it out. Even if you don’t know us, please come. Help us out. Help us pack those numbers.

[Trey] It would be awesome just to see all of you guys there.

And then you can get like a poster picture with the red “SOLD OUT” over top.

Yes! I would love to have one of those. Please.

That’s the plan.

[Hunter] It’ll happen.

[Trey] So come on guys, make it happen for us. And then get us on Warped Tour please.

[Hunter] So that’s what’s happening.

Nice! Well, that’s everything I have. You guys played a great show up there. So, thank you so much for meeting with me and talking with me.

Thanks guys!
